Port Everglades: SC Line Shipping Company Launches Cuba/U.S. Service

Florida-based SC Line stepped into a new era on September 20 when its M/V Carolina Russ berthed at the Port of Mariel in the first commercial voyage from the United States and Cuba since the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Newly implemented U.S. government regulations allow cargo and cruise ships to sail directly to Cuba from the United States without a special license.

SC Line handles Ro/Ro, breakbulk and container (including reefers) cargo between the United States and various Caribbean and Latin America ports. The new service calls Cuba every 14 days, sailing from Port Everglades to Mariel and Santiago de Cuba.
