The topics covered during the business program at the recent AAPA Annual Convention were driven by the AAPA strategic plan and issues identified by port directors as critical to meet the needs of AAPA’s diverse membership.
Highlights of the business program included panels on partnering to optimize the supply chain, needs versus realities in infrastructure funding and raising awareness of ports' social and economic value. This year, the program also included four special facilitated discussions, targeted to specific types of ports, that addressed enhancing port efficiency, maintaining/regaining community support, connecting to the freight network and strengthening a port’s financial stability through diversification. View Two keynote addresses were delivered by Adam Goldstein, President & COO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., as well as U.S. Maritime Administrator Chip Jaenichen. In addition, special sessions to discuss issues of interest to port directors as well as board members were held even before the official opening.
The education and training programs planned for 2016 will also highlight many of the critical issues that were identified in the strategic plan and will enhance the professional development opportunities AAPA offers to port leaders and staff.
