Port Freeport Awarded GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting By GFOA
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded Port Freeport a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2014 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). It is the 26th year in a row the port has been so honored.
This Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups.
"Through the dedication by Mary Campus, Controller and hard work of the employees in the Finance Department, Port Freeport keeps our accounting and financial reporting system at the highest national standard possible," said Jeff Strader, the port’s chief financial officer. "This award shows that achievement."
Based on tonnage, Port Freeport in 2013 ranked 31st among U.S. ports in total waterborne trade and 26th in foreign trade. Commercial users of the Freeport Ship Channel include Dow Chemical, Phillips 66, BASF, Tenaris, Vulcan Material, Mammoet, Freeport Liquefied Natural Gas, American Rice, Dole, Chiquita, Seaway, Mediterranean Shipping Company and Höegh Autoliners.
