In a Transportation TV Special Report, AASHTO joined a tour organized by the American Association of Port Authorities for journalists, congressional staff, and members of the US Maritime Administration as they visit two facilities operated by the Virginia Port Authority. The video shows how barges, and inland waterways and facilities are being used to cut carbon emissions, reduce highway congestion, and lessen the wear and tear on roads. The tour also highlighted how America’s ports are adapting to handle mega vessels, some of which can hold as many as 18,000 containers on board. Experts discuss investments being made today, and what more needs to done to keep pace with the demand for greater capacity.
