Unified Command opens third temporary alternate channel
The Fort Carroll Temporary Alternate Channel near Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge has been opened by the Unified Command to increase the Port of Baltimore's vessel traffic capacity. This new channel, which has a 20-foot depth, 300-foot horizontal, and 135-foot vertical clearance, is expected to restore about 15% of the port's commercial activity pre-collapse. Strict safety protocols remain in place with a 2,000-yard safety zone around the bridge and entry by permission only from the Captain of the Port.
