Waterfront Revitalization: Everett
Everett Port Commission Awards Multi-Million Dollar Contract for Fisherman’s Harbor Marine Work
The Everett Port Commission has awarded a $4.4 million contract to complete the marine elements of the new Fisherman’s Harbor district in Waterfront Place and make way for uplands development to begin next year.
The work includes the removal and reconstruction of the southern-most bulkhead in Fisherman’s Harbor, construction of a new over water timber wharf to moor commercial fishing vessels, the platform for the new Pacific Rim Splash Fountain Plaza, and an access pier that will eventually connect to a new guest moorage facility at the base of Fisherman’s Harbor.
The project will begin in September and be complete in spring 2017. The port is also out to bid with the Fisherman’s Harbor upland bid package, which will include the roads, utilities, and public access features for the district. The port expects to award this contract in September, with work to begin in October.
Fisherman’s Harbor is the first phase of the 65-acre Waterfront Place Central mixed-use development. Located on 12 acres, this district will be a year-round hub of activity with up to 265 apartment units, a 135- room hotel, 5 commercial buildings and numerous retail and waterfront restaurant spaces. Key public features include a continuous public trail, floating activity barges, a dock walk for visitors to get down to touch the water, Pacific Rim Plaza that will pay tribute to the international seaport, and a small boat course.
The port is actively recruiting hoteliers and restaurants and has completed recruitment for the first phase of housing in Fisherman’s Harbor. Staff expects to have developers on board by the end of the year, with vertical construction to begin in 2017.
The Waterfront Place Central project will create a new community where people can live, work, shop, relax and find entertainment. Overall, it includes 15 new public gathering spaces, up to 660 housing units, 2 waterfront hotels, at least 10 fine and casual dining restaurants, and 662,000 sq. ft. of commercial, retail and marine sales and services. At full build out, the project will support more than 2,000 jobs and $8.6 million in new tax revenue for the city.
