Clarkson's Bulk Carrier Register is a comprehensive directory to bulk carriers, ore carriers and combination carriers of 10,000 dwt and over. The Register is organized in four sections:

1.    Statistical tables and graphs depicting the evolution and technical character of the bulk carrier fleet, changes occurring in 2015 (losses, scrappings, orders, deliveries, name changes, etc.)

2.    Ship finder and ship ex-name finder indexes grouped by deadweight capacity and type (open-hatch bulk carriers, self-discharging vessels, conbulkers, log-fitted bulk carriers, Great Lakes only bulk carriers, etc.)

3.    Detailed information on each vessel – name and ownership; registry; builder; year of construction; class/type; hull dimensions and classification; tonnages (dwt, gross tons, etc.); grain capacity; propulsion; and other details such as hatches/holds and cargo handling gear.

4.    A directory to companies (owners/managers) and their fleets and contact information

Other notable features include an introductory analysis of the bulk carrier market in 2016 and a glossary of bulk ship terminology.

Clarkson’s data show that as of January 1, 2017, the world bulk fleet consisted of 10,867 ships with a total capacity of nearly 794 million dead weight tons.

Clarkson notes that the dry bulk market remained depressed in 2016, marked by sluggish growth in trade and falling bulk carrier earnings.  It sees a chance of "slight improvement" in 2017 but warns that "market conditions are unlikely to pick up significantly for a while yet."
