New Publication: Containership Register 2017
Clarkson’s Register provides a comprehensive and highly detailed profile of the world liner vessel fleet, including fully cellular container ships, multipurpose cargo vessels and ro/ro ships.
It opens with a survey of the ship market in 2016 that includes summary statistical data and an analysis of recent developments and trends. The introductory commentary is followed by stand-alone directories to containerships, multipurpose general cargo vessels and ro/ro ships (including car carriers).
Each directory consists of three sections:
I. A market review followed by statistical tables and figures describing the development of the world fleet, salient data on major shipbuilders and ship owners
II. A "Ship Finder" index that lists the names of vessels in ascending order of capacity by year of construction and an "Index of Ex-Names" of vessels.
III. A "Glossary of Particulars" for each vessel – name and ownership; hull dimensions; tonnages (DWT, gross tons, etc.); cargo capacity (TEUs, vehicle numbers, etc.), and other details such as fuel consumption and cargo handling gear.
The book concludes with a directory to company owners, complete with contact information, Web site address, and vessel rosters.
The statistical data in most cases is current through January 1, 2017. As of that date, for example, the world cellular container ship fleet consisted of 5,154 vessels with total capacity of nearly 20 million TEUs. On order were 421 ships totaling nearly 3.2 million TEUs. Post-Panamaxers of 15,000 TEUs or greater accounted for 14.7 percent of the vessels and 38.6 percent of the capacity on order at that time. Nevertheless, many of the vessels in service or order fell in the intermediate (3,000-5,999 TEU) and handy (less than 3,000 TEUs) size classifications. More detail in the attachment.
