San Diego Awards Contract for Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment Project
The Port of San Diego has selected a local contractor to begin work on the first phase of the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Redevelopment Project.
The Board of Port Commissioners on October 10 awarded a $12.3 million contract - the first of three under Phase 1 of the redevelopment project.
Phase 1, also referred to as the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal Modernization Project, aims to make the terminal more modern, clean and efficient. Its combined budget total of $24 million will be financed by a $10 million TIGER grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and a $14 million contribution from the port.
The Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal redevelopment plan provides laydown space and flexibility within the terminal’s existing foot print for three distinct cargo nodes:
The work to be completed by the contractor includes: Demolition of an obsolete transit shed located adjacent to three of the terminal’s primary vessel berths and disposal and salvage of the transit shed building and component. It further includes excavation, grading and compaction of the areas under the demolished buildings to support a finished pavement; site utility improvements; and Stormwater Best Management Practices improvements.
The port anticipates work will begin next month and be completed by spring 2020.
