Seattle/Tacoma: Northwest Seaport Alliance Container Volumes up 2% Through November
The
Northwest Seaport Alliance reports a 2 percent container traffic increase through November at its marine terminals in Seattle and Tacoma.
Year-to-date data show increases from January-November 2016 of 1.0 percent for fully laden import containers, 8 percent for exports and, counting empties as well as full containers, 4.0 percent for international trade overall to 2,700,979 TEUs.
The November numbers reflect declines from last year of 15 percent for imports and 20 percent for exports. Domestic shipments fell 15 percent, reflecting declines in both the Alaska and Hawaii trades.
Other year-to-date cargo highlights:
- Logs: 246,303 metric tons (+63 percent)
- Containerized cargo: 23,890,977 tons (-2.5 percent)
- Other breakbulk: 189,846 tons (+14 percent)
- Autos: 130,071 vehicle units (-14 percent)
