The Port of Bellingham is preparing for the arrival of the bulk carrier Ken Spirit at the Bellingham Shipping Terminal on April 4, where it will be loaded with metal for export by ABC Recycling. This is part of ABC Recycling's operation shutdown, involving the removal of its metal stockpile using cargo vessels. Enhanced environmental protection protocols will be enforced during loading operations. ABC Recycling must clear all metal by June 30, 2024, to avoid financial penalties.

The Ports of Indiana has initiated a significant project at Jeffersonville port, financed by a U.S. "Marine Highway" grant, aimed at increasing barge shipments of steel coils. This $1.3 million venture, slated for completion in mid-May, encompasses the creation of a new 1.2 acre storage space and the acquisition of a large-capacity forklift. The project, benefiting from a partnership with Nucor Corp and other industry players, seeks to enhance economic, environmental, and community advantages by shifting freight from road to river, thus reducing annual long-haul truck trips and associated emissions.

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) Board has approved a $65.6 million investment for container yard enhancements at the Port of Savannah's Ocean Terminal. This effort includes site preparation for container stacks, removal of obsolete infrastructure, and utility upgrades, aiming to expand the terminal's capacity significantly by late 2027. The project is funded by revenue bonds issued in 2022, aligning with GPA's commitment to supporting growing trade needs and ensuring efficient cargo handling.

The Port of Everett has entered a new lease agreement with Fincantieri Marine Repair (FMR) to establish its first Washington state location at Marina Village at Waterfront Place, aimed at supporting U.S. Navy assets. This strategic move is in anticipation of up to 12 new Constellation-class guided-missile frigates being homeported at Naval Station Everett, adjacent to the Port’s Seaport. FMR will provide post-delivery support and crew training for these vessels, marking a significant step in bolstering the U.S. Navy's presence and operational readiness in the region.
