John Burns, Chief Executive Officer of the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay, will be concluding his nearly decade-long tenure to pursue new career opportunities. The Board of Commissioners extends sincere gratitude to John for his dedicated service to the Port, its staff, customers, and the Coos Bay community. During his tenure, John provided leadership during significant milestones such as the Channel Modification Project and the modernization of the Coos Bay Rail Line. The Board is currently implementing a transition plan, and John's departure date will be determined soon.

Starting June 23, 2024, The Port of Virginia® introduced a new WIN (West India North America) service by Ocean Network Express (ONE), providing direct access to the Indian Subcontinent with Norfolk as its final U.S. East Coast port call. This service, also utilized by HMM for their IAX (India America Express) route, aims to expedite exports to western India and Pakistan, catering particularly to agricultural products like cotton and grain. Stephen A. Edwards, CEO of the Virginia Port Authority, emphasizes the strategic advantage of last-out vessel calls, enabling faster delivery to a burgeoning market while leveraging the port's robust infrastructure and rail connections to enhance logistical efficiency.

Effective June 26, 2024, the Prince Rupert Port Authority has announced changes to its Board of Directors. Rod Graham, President of Velocity Truck Centres and a seasoned corporate executive with diverse sector experience, has been appointed by the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport for Canada. Graham, based in Calgary, brings extensive board experience and financial expertise to his three-year term, replacing outgoing member Frans Tjallingii. The Board will soon select a new Chair amidst a significant phase of development for the Port of Prince Rupert.

S&P Global Ratings has upgraded Galveston Wharves revenue bonds to an A rating from A minus, citing increased revenues from cruise activities and related investments at the Port of Galveston. This upgrade reflects confidence in sustained financial improvement and the port's ability to meet revenue growth forecasts. Heirloom plans to establish two Direct Air Capture (DAC) facilities in Northwest Louisiana, enhancing the region's clean energy sector and creating significant economic opportunities. Located at the Port of Caddo-Bossier in Shreveport, these facilities will collectively remove nearly 320,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually by 2027. The investment will generate approximately 1,000 new jobs during construction and operation phases, reinforcing Louisiana's position as a leader in DAC technology and supporting local workforce development initiatives.

The Port of Everett has awarded a $15.2 million contract to Faber Construction for the next phase of retail and restaurant development at Waterfront Place. Set to begin construction next month, the project will include two new multi-tenant buildings at parcels A6 and A12 along Fisherman’s Harbor, totaling 18,000 sq. ft. of interior space and 3,000 sq. ft. of patio areas, along with a 78-stall parking lot. Port CEO Lisa Lefeber expressed enthusiasm for expanding waterfront amenities and job opportunities, aiming to enhance community gathering spaces with diverse dining options like Fisherman Jack’s and Rustic Cork Wine Bar, scheduled to open by next summer.

Port Tampa Bay President & CEO Paul Anderson has announced the appointment of Michael Poole as the new Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. With 37 years of experience, including 27 years in the maritime industry, Poole brings a wealth of expertise in finance, risk management, and strategic leadership. His responsibilities will include overseeing financial operations, managing the port's debt profile, evaluating new business opportunities, and enhancing overall financial stability. Poole’s background includes significant contributions to Florida’s seaports, having served as CFO for the Canaveral Port Authority and the Jacksonville Port Authority, making him a valuable addition to Port Tampa Bay’s leadership team.

The Port of Oakland's container volume showed a positive trend in May 2024, with a 5.3% increase in total cargo compared to May 2023, totaling 188,040 TEUs. Full import volume in the first five months of 2024 surged by 18.9% over the same period last year, reaching 80,039 TEUs. Despite a slight decrease in full export volumes by 2.4%, the outlook remains optimistic, especially with improvements in vessel schedule reliability attracting perishable goods shippers back to the port.
