AAPA Seaports Advisory
July 11, 2024
The aftermath of Hurricane Beryl in Texas, where the storm made landfall early Monday, has caused widespread power outages affecting over 1 million homes and businesses. Major ports such as Houston, Corpus Christi, and Galveston were closed under Coast Guard condition "Zulu," halting vessel movements and cargo operations due to anticipated gale force winds. The impact extended beyond ports, affecting rail operations and logistics services in the region, with disruptions expected to persist as recovery efforts continue amidst flooding and power challenges.

Following Hurricane Beryl, the Port of Corpus Christi has transitioned to post-storm recovery under their 2024 Hurricane Readiness Plan, reporting minimal impacts and maintaining continuous operations of critical facilities like the Emergency Operations Center and Security Command Center. The port offices resumed normal operations on July 9, and the Corpus Christi Ship Channel has reopened as per the latest Marine Safety Information Bulletin from the U.S. Coast Guard. Port Condition Zulu was rescinded for several waterways effective July 8, 2024, with all users urged to comply with USCG guidelines for safe navigation.

The U.S. Coast Guard has lifted Condition Zulu for the Port of Brownsville, allowing normal maritime traffic to resume o July 8, following the passage of Hurricane Beryl. Operations have resumed and the Harbor Master's Office is coordinating inbound vessel schedules. Mariners are advised to remain cautious due to potential debris and hazards in South Texas waters resulting from the storm.
