The AAPA and Gulf Coast port representatives have challenged the Biden Administration's proposed critical habitat designation for the Rice's whale in recent meetings with key federal agencies. They argue that the rule could significantly impact the maritime industry, potentially disrupting safety, economic activities, and national security. The AAPA and local senators have voiced concerns over the scientific basis for the rule and its possible negative effects on energy production and job loss in the Gulf region.

The Port Authority of Guam has received a clean audit report for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2023, reflecting its strong financial position and effective management practices. The audit, conducted by Ernst & Young LLP, confirmed no material weaknesses or deficiencies. Despite challenges from Typhoon Mawar and COVID-19, the Port’s operating revenues rose to $60.6 million, highlighting its resilience and strategic growth initiatives. Additionally, the Port was awarded the Platinum Award for “Excellence in Citizen-Centric Reporting” by the AGA Guam Chapter, marking its commitment to transparency and accountability.

SANY America has launched operations at Industrial Realty Group’s (IRG) near-port warehouse, just two miles from the Port of Wilmington, enhancing its import distribution capabilities. The facility’s infrastructure and proximity to the port allow for rapid staging and market readiness of products, thanks to the port’s efficient gate turn times and seamless ship-to-rail service. North Carolina Ports’ near-port model and expertise across diverse cargo segments have positioned Wilmington as a key hub for industrial and import distribution growth in the Southeast.

The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) is expanding its inland connectivity with the development of the Blue Ridge Connector near Gainesville, GA, aimed at enhancing container movement across the state and into the Midwest. Scheduled for completion in 2026, this $127 million facility will connect the Port of Savannah to Northeast Georgia, offering expedited rail service and reducing long-haul truck traffic. The terminal will feature six tracks, cater to industries like poultry and heavy equipment, and provide a sustainable transportation option with a capacity of 200,000 containers annually. This initiative complements GPA's strategic rail expansion, including the Mason Mega Rail Terminal in Savannah and the Appalachian Regional Port in Northwest Georgia.

The Port of Galveston is demolishing its nearly 100-year-old grain facility to make room for more profitable cargo operations, including roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) and wind turbine components. The grain elevators, which were once vital to Galveston’s economy, will be dismantled over 250 days, with the concrete reused for leveling and infrastructure projects. This transition marks the port’s shift from its historical grain business toward new opportunities that align with modern cargo demands, supporting continued economic growth and job creation at the port.

This work, part of the BIH Segment B, supports the Port of Brownsville’s growth and enhances shipping efficiency. The initiative is expected to be completed by June 2026 and is complemented by additional deepening work under the BIH Segment A project, driven by NextDecade LNG and the Port of Brownsville.

Following the defeat of the boundary enlargement measure, the Port of Everett remains focused on driving economic growth in Snohomish County. Despite limitations on investing outside its current boundaries, the Port will continue strategic efforts within its district to support job creation, trade, transportation, and environmental initiatives. With over 40,000 regional jobs supported, the Port is committed to collaborating with community partners to enhance the economic vitality of the area and ensure ongoing positive impacts throughout the region.
