The Port of Bellingham has been awarded a $2.8 million grant to electrify the Bellingham Shipping Terminal, part of the state’s $26.5 million Port Electrification Grant program. This project will help reduce carbon emissions, support the Port’s Climate Action Strategy, and position the terminal as a sustainable job creator for Whatcom County. Shore power installation will allow docked ships to plug into the grid, cutting reliance on diesel engines, and reducing noise and emissions. The electrification project, expected to be completed by 2026, complements ongoing modernization efforts at the terminal, including dock upgrades, deeper navigation channels, and stormwater management improvements.

PortMiami has partnered with Miami Dade College (MDC) to enhance workforce development in the maritime industry, focusing on logistics and transportation. Starting in fall 2024, maritime workers at PortMiami will join MDC students in a Logistics and Transportation Specialist certificate program, offering courses in supply chain management, sustainability, and quality control. The program is part of Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s Future Ready Plan, which aims to provide career growth opportunities and support the local economy. Students can also benefit from MDC’s Kick-Start Program, covering 100% of tuition and fees.

In response to Tropical Cyclone Six, the Port of Corpus Christi has increased its Hurricane Readiness to Level 3 (Increased Readiness) as outlined in its 2024 Hurricane Readiness Plan. The port is actively coordinating with local communities, industry partners, and state and federal agencies while monitoring the storm’s potential impact. The U.S. Coast Guard has set Port Condition X-Ray, requiring vessels over 500 gross tons to review departure plans. For ongoing updates and weather advisories, visit the National Hurricane Center website.

On September 7, 2024, the Port Authority of Guam marked a record-breaking milestone with the arrival of its ninth cruise ship of the year, the MV Seabourn Pursuit. The vessel, carrying 183 passengers and 233 crew members, highlights Guam's growing reputation as a premier luxury cruise destination. With over 17,000 passengers and crew welcomed in 2024, this achievement strengthens the island’s tourism industry and showcases the Port's ability to accommodate high volumes of luxury vessels. Two additional cruise ships are expected to visit Guam before year-end.
