On Wednesday, April 2, the U.S. House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee held a markup of several port-related bills. Among them was the Secure Our Ports Act (H.R. 252), which included an amendment from Rep. Calvert (R-CA-41) to restrict future Chinese investment in U.S. ports, without impacting existing, federally reviewed investments.
Additionally, H.R. 2035, the American Cargo for American Ships Act, was reviewed; it seeks to strengthen cargo preference laws by requiring certain U.S. DOT-financed cargoes to be transported on U.S.-flagged vessels.
All three bills passed the Committee on voice votes. Please reach out to the AAPA Government Relations team if your port has feedback on any of these three bills, or with any questions about ongoing legislative activity.
