The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is integrating "green" practices into daily operations at its ports, airports, tunnels and bridges and PATH passenger rail system to preserve and protect the environment while serving the transportation needs of the bi-state region. The Port of Seattle has embarked on a five-year plan to protect and enhance the region’s natural environment by, among other things, reducing greenhouse gas emissions which trap heat in the atmosphere and contribute to climate change.

Investors are adding industrial space to meet booming demand in Savannah, with more than 1.7 million square feet of warehousing recently completed, an additional 1.9 million square feet under construction, and a newly announced 2,700-acre development, all located within close proximity of the Georgia Port Authority’s marine terminals. Specialty metals manufacturing distributor Aero-Vac Alloys & Forge, Inc. will relocate its corporate headquarters and production facility from California to a 23,000 square foot location leased from the Port of Kalama under an agreement that took effect May 1, 2016.

The Port of Bellingham is refinancing the balance of a $5 million bond issued in 2005 to cash in on historically low interest rates and reduce debt payments by $860,000 during the next 10 years. The Port of Palm Beach reports net income for March 2016 soared 354 percent from a year ago to $555,780. That equates to 51.2 percent of the $1,085,600 profit the port had budgeted for FY 2015-16.

The Everett Port Commission has awarded a nearly $1.1 million contract for the relocation of a historic building from its current location in the Port of Everett Marina to the port’s new Boxcar Park.

The 2016 Halifax cruise season officially opened April 30 with the docking at 9 a.m. of Holland America’s Veendam at the port authority’s Pier 22 cruise terminal. Financing amounting to $35 million for the restoration and modernization of Alexandra Pier and Iberville Passenger Terminal in the Port of Montreal will be provided by the province of Quebec and City of Montreal. The Port of Seattle launched its 2016 cruise season on April 29 by welcoming Holland America Cruise Line’s Nieuw Amsterdam to the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91.
