Florida Seaports: A Global Threshold- 2016-2020 Five-Year Florida Seaport Mission Plan provides updated data on Florida’s international trade and cargo and cruise activities at the state’s seaports. Asia is JAXPORT’s fastest growing container market and now accounts for 33 percent of the port’s TEU throughput, up from just 7 percent in 2014. Import laden cargo container volumes at the Port of Los Angeles increased 4.7 percent in April compared to April 2015. Total throughput – imports, exports and empty containers – for the year through April was up 8 percent from January-April 2015.
Cargo tonnage and the cruise passenger count rose to record highs last year at the Port of Montreal, according to the port authority’s annual report. Operating revenues also increased and work moved forward on major capital projects, including a new container terminal and a rehabilitated cruise ship facility. Containerized exports at the Port of Oakland grew in April for the fourth consecutive month. The Port of Virginia posted April container volume increases at its Hampton Roads, Richmond and Virginia Inland Port terminals.
