An All Hazards Response Training National Level Exercise involving 108 emergency responders from seven local, county, state, regional and federal agencies was held May 18 in the Port of Baltimore. The responders teamed together in a test of their counter-WMD preparedness and readiness including response to suspicious activity, hostile environments and hazardous materials.

Master riggers employed by stevedoring company Portus recently offloaded four multimillion dollar helicopters at the heavy lift and specialty cargo berth at the Jacksonville Port Authority’s Blount Island Marine Terminal. Each helicopter will receive $10 million in upgrades at a manufacturing facility in the U.S. Southeast before returning to the Middle East via JAXPORT.

Green Marine unveiled its participants’ environmental performance results for the year 2015 during its GreenTech 2016 conference last week in Québec city. The data show Green Marine participants maintained an overall average of 3.2 on a 1-to-5 scale, with Level 1 indicating monitoring of regulations and Level 5 reflecting excellence and leadership. Participants include ship owners, port authorities, Seaway corporations, terminal owners and shipyard operators.

Public marine terminals in the Port of Baltimore handled a record 2.4 million short tons of autos, containers, forest products, ro/ro and other general cargo during first quarter 2016. Germany’s seatrade fell to 296.2 million metric tons, a 2.6 percent drop from 2014 and the lowest total since 2012, according to the federal statistics agency, Statistisches Bundesamt. Container traffic fell by an even steeper 4.6 percent to 15.2 million TEUs, the lowest annual total since 2008.
Throughput hit monthly highs in March and again in April at the Port of New Orleans’ Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal. This year’s container surge follows the port’s strong performance in 2015 when gains in metal imports and chemical exports help push general cargo to new highs.
