The board of directors of the Halifax Port Authority has extended Karen Oldfield’s contract as president and chief executive officer through December 2018. Paul Vornholt has received a four-year extension as director of Port Milwaukee. The U.S. Maritime Administration has appointed Gary LaGrange, PPM®, president and chief executive of the Port of New Orleans, to the Maritime Transportation System National Advisory Committee.
 
Chiquita Fresh North America is returning to the Port of Gulfport. The first Chiquita containers are expected this month and the first ship in August. Construction is underway on a $73 million mega yacht marina and service center in the Port of San Juan. According to Governor Garcia Padilla, the new business will create about 1,300 jobs and generate economic impacts totaling $40 million annually.
 
Beginning July 24, Seaboard Marine will be offering weekly service from the Port of New Orleans to Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica, as well as to Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. The 10,100 TEU MOL Benefactor became the largest container ship to call the Port of New York & New Jersey when it docked July 8 at GCT Bayonne. The North Carolina State Ports Authority (SPA) on July 6 welcomed the largest containership to call the Port of Wilmington – the 7,500-TEU Hanjin Baltimore.
 
Weeknight shifts are the best way to spread the workload at the Port of Oakland. That is the view of shippers and those who move their cargo, according to a newly released port survey. Holt Logistics Corp. and Greenwich Terminals, LLC, are purchasing two new Super Post-Panamax container cranes for installation at the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal in the Port of Philadelphia.

The Georgia Ports Authority has received a $44 million Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to increase rail capacity at the Port of Savannah. The Port of Oakland on July 7 welcomed the first train to its $100 million near-dock rail facility at the former Army Base.
 
 
   
The Port of Hueneme has been awarded $307,500 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s FY 2016 Port Security Grant Program.
 
 
   
The Port of Prince Rupert recently announced a contribution that will make a difference to the quality of life for residents of the nearby coastal community of Metlakatla (BC).
