The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) is expecting more than 230 cruise ship transits during the 2016-2017 season, beginning October 4 with the Coral Princess on a voyage from Los Angeles to the U.S. East Coast.

The Port of Angeles has expanded its commitment to sustainability by issuing $35.2 million in "green" bonds. They are part of a $201.6 million bond issue that will net the port present value savings of $32.5 million, or an average of $1.9 million annually through 2040.

The Port of Wilmington continues to welcome post-Panamaxers, including the Evergreen Ever Laden. With container capacity of approximately 8,452 TEUs, Ever Laden is the largest ship to call the North Carolina port. A transpacific shipping route linking Asia and the United States will be calling the Port of Oakland beginning in November. The port expects the Calco-C service will bring an additional 50 vessel calls and 30,000 container TEUs to Oakland annually.

The Port of New Orleans’ newly launched Clean Truck Replacement Incentive Program (Clean TRIP) offers financial incentives for local short-haul truck owners to voluntarily replace approximately 20 Class 8 drayage trucks from model years 1993-2006 with trucks from model year 2012 and newer. The Port of Seattle Commission on September 13 approved funding for design of the port’s first solar demonstration project. Port Tampa Bay is marking the close of another successful nesting season for American Oystercatchers and other migratory birds that make the port’s dredged material management areas their summer home in Hillsborough Bay.

In his Savannah State of the Port address, Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Griff Lynch detailed a new strategic rail initiative. GPA's Mid-American Arc will focus on the growth of intermodal rail, extending the Port of Savannah's reach to new markets across the Southeast and Midwest United States. The Port of Houston Authority and Freight Shuttle International have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding a joint project to evaluate freight shuttle deployment options in the Houston port area.

Grain, aluminum, containerized goods, steel, generators, tanks, and cranes exemplify the variety of Seaway cargo handled this August by America’s Great Lakes ports. according to the U.S. Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, Exports surged, but fewer imports and empties caused a drop in container volumes overall this August at the Port of Long Beach. The Port of Los Angeles in August experienced its busiest month since 2006, with container volume of 798,932 TEUs. The Port of Virginia reports container throughput at its Hampton Roads terminals reached a monthly high in August of 235,511 TEUs.
