Carnival Cruise Line has signed an agreement with landlord Urban Commons and the City of Long Beach to expand the Long Beach Cruise Terminal to accommodate larger ships and enhance its terminal operations. Port of Los Angeles container volumes this September increased 2.4 percent from a year ago to 747,707 TEUs. Year to date, container traffic totaled 6,368,107 TEUs, up 4.1 percent compared to January – September 2015. The September container count for the Northwest Seaport Alliance shows increases from a year ago of 3.7 for full imports and 5.8 percent for full exports. Year to date 2016, volume remained flat, down less than 1.0 percent to 2,657,481 TEUs due to reduced empty and domestic container traffic. The Port of Virginia reports container traffic at its Hampton Roads terminals totaled 226,896 TEUs in September. That was up 2.0 percent from September 2015 and gave Virginia its eighth consecutive month with volume in excess of 210,000 TEUs.
