A groundbreaking on November 30 marked the beginning of a $37.5 million expansion of PortMiami’s Cruise Terminal F. The facility will be used mainly by MSC Cruises, including its newest vessel, MSC Seaside. Carnival Cruise Line has extended its commitment to Port Tampa Bay through 2021. A new cruise passenger terminal has begun operation in the Port of Valparaiso. The US$8 million, 9,500 square meter facility can process up to 6,000 simultaneously embarking and debarking passengers from two large cruise ships.

The Port of Everett Commission has authorized Port CEO Les Reardanz to sign a Purchase and Sale Agreement with a local contractor to build approximately 254 multifamily housing units in the new Fisherman’s Harbor District. The district is the first phase of the port’s 65-acre Waterfront Place Central mixed-use development.

Port Longview’s 2017 general fund operating budget is $36.5 million and the capital projects budget is $3.8 million. The latter includes an $815,000 investment in the port’s Industrial Rail Corridor.
The Port of Seattle Commission has approved a 2017 budget with $1.4 billion in expenditures designed to meet the region’s demand for port services. The budget also aims to return the benefits of growth to the community through significant environmental and economic development initiatives, particularly those focused on reducing carbon emissions, improving quality of life in communities near the airport, and connecting more people to port-related careers.

A newly released study finds that Port Tampa Bay’s economic impact based on 2015 numbers amounted to $17.2 billion. It also reveals that the port supported some 85,000 direct, indirect, induced and related jobs annually.

The U.S. Coast Guard will conduct icebreaking operations at the Port of Green Bay in January to keep the shipping channel open for economically significant commercial shipments, particularly petroleum.
