Larger vessels and additional ocean services are having a positive impact on the Port of Savannah, where container throughput soared to a monthly high in May of 350,104 TEUs. That was up 11.7 percent compared to May 2016 and boosted the calendar year total to nearly 1.7 million TEUs and an increase from last year of 10.6 percent.
The Port of Virginia® reports container throughput at its Hampton terminals jumped 12.5 percent from a year ago to a monthly record in May of 246,871 TEU. That came during a month when the port hosted sequential visits by two 13,000 TEU vessels – COSCO Development and OCCL France.

The managing members of the Northwest Seaport Alliance last week approved the $52 million purchase of four more container cranes from a Chinese manufacturer. They will join four cranes already on order for Husky Terminal in the South Harbor.
Port Everglades is buying three low-profile Super Post Panamax container-handling gantry cranes to meet demands from current customers and new services anticipated from the port's multi-million-dollar expansion program.

On June 9, PhilaPort announced its acquisition of a 29-acre parcel locally known as the former Philadelphia Produce and Seafood Terminal from PIDC — Philadelphia's public-private economic development corporation. The purchase boosts PhilaPort’s holdings to 1,016 acres and will be used to support the growth of container operations at Packer Avenue Marine Terminal (PAMT).

Port Everglades will invest more than $100 million for a complete makeover of Cruise Terminal 25, which will remain a preferential berth for Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. (RCCL). It is part of a new, long-term agreement approved unanimously by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.

Green Marine has awarded Port Canaveral environmental certification in recognition of the port’s effective environmental leadership and management. The Port of Corpus Christi Authority has again received SO 14001 certification for its Environmental Management System (EMS).

The West Vancouver Freight Access project (WVFA) is a decade-long, $250 million effort by the Port of Vancouver USA to create jobs and generate economic benefit by investing in freight rail infrastructure. The overall project consists of 21 individual projects to improve freight rail movement through the port and along the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad mainlines, connecting the Pacific Northwest to major rail hubs from Canada to Mexico.

Ex- USS Independence arrived under tow June 1 at the Port of Brownsville for scrapping at port tenant International Shipbreaking’s facility on South Padre Island. Dismantling the decommissioned aircraft carrier will generate 150 jobs and thousands of tons of cargo over the next year and a half. The Port of Seattle broke ground June 6 on a 26.2-acre/10.6-hectare site, which will house two Class "A" industrial warehouses, totaling 458,500 square feet. Both buildings are scheduled to be delivered in early 2018.

At its recently concluded annual general meeting, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority released a study of the economic impact in 2016 of the Port of Vancouver on local communities, the provinces and across Canada. A second report describes how economic, environmental and social sustainability are being addressed and measured.

The Port of Palm Beach recently made two staff promotions in the areas of Administration and Accounting.
Beatrice Greffin, former manager of Human Resources, Payroll, and Foreign-trade Zone, was promoted to director of Human Resources and Administration. She reports to Executive Director Manuel Almira.
In the Accounting department, Brad Elling has been promoted to assistant controller and continues to report to Controller Daniel Kirchman.
