Metro Ports takes over July 1 as the bulk terminal operator at the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor. The Port of Los Angeles has approved a five-year lease extension that allows SSA Pacific, Inc. to continue operating a marine terminal handling Chilean fruit imports.

Jane Vandenberg has joined the Port of Tacoma as director of engineering.
The Port of Bellingham recently awarded a $750,000 contract to habilitate three deteriorated piers in Blaine Harbor in support of the working waterfront. The Everett Port Commission has authorized CEO Les Reardanz to sign a long-term lease with Waterplace LLC, to construct a 142-room Hotel Indigo in Fisherman’s Harbor at Waterfront Place.

The Long Beach Harbor Commission took an important step forward in upgrading firefighting resources in the Port of Long Beach with its approval earlier this month of engineering design services for Fireboat Stations Nos. 15 and 20.

The Evergreen Line container ship Ever Sigma container ship last week discharged the 9 millionth TEU to pass through the Port of Los Angeles in the span of 12 months, the most ever for a port in the Western Hemisphere. The Northwest Seaport Alliance reports international container volume set a May record, with throughput at its Seattle and Tacoma terminals up 18 percent from a year ago to 255,817 TEUs.
