Vessels can now shut down their engines and hook up to shore-side electrical power while docked at the Montreal Port Authority’s new Alexander Pier cruise terminal. For the second year in a row, Cruise Critic has ranked the Port of San Diego among the top five cruise destinations in the United States and Canada.
 
Long-time Port Everglades customers King Ocean Services Limited, Inc. and Crowley Caribbean Services, LLC, have entered into a vessel sharing agreement (VSA) that will expand their reach into the port's top trade market, Central America.
 
The U.S. Department of Transportation has recommended awarding the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor a $9.85 million FASTLANE grant to help finance a $19.7 million expansion of the Lake Michigan port’s cargo handling and multimodal capabilities.
 
 
   
GFOA - the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada – has awarded Port Freeport a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).  The Port of Oakland expects to save $44 million in debt service payments over 13 years as the result of a $324 million refinancing bond sale on August 7.

Fourchon LNG LLC is moving forward with plans for a 5 million ton per annum liquefied natural gas (LNG) production and export facility at Port Fourchon. Just three months after the opening of the Evergreen Customer Care Call Center at the Satsop Business Park, the Port of Grays Harbor Commission approved a lease amendment to double Overstock.com’s footprint to include the entire 43,000 square foot Flex Tech Building.
 
 
   
United States Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi joined the Port of Brownsville and other federal, state and local agencies in an Area Maritime Security Training and Exercise Program (AMSTEP) table-top exercise in Brownsville on July 12.
 
The International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) has named Kristin Decas "Top Port Director of the Year" in recognition of "her outstanding leadership and commitment to the industry" as director and CEO of the Port of Hueneme. Sam Joumblat has returned to the Port of Long Beach, this time as managing director of finance and administration.

Georgia Ports Authority’s Garden City Container Terminal in Savannah had its busiest July ever last month, with throughput up 6.8 percent from a year to 336,099 TEUs.  Current data suggest Savannah could very well finish the year as the fourth U.S. port to hit the 4.0 million TEU mark. Surging trade made July Port of Long Beach’s busiest month ever, boosting the container count for the year to nearly 4.2 million TEUs and an increase from January-July 2016 of 6.4 percent. Container volumes last month at the Port of Los Angeles jumped 16 percent to a July record of 796,804 TEUs and put the port well on course toward another record year.

Ten months into its fiscal year, Port Manatee is experiencing dramatic growth in container traffic, with throughput skyrocketing to 32,907 TEUs. That’s up 47 percent from last year and in fact exceeds the port’s record full year tally – 30,431 TEUs in FY 2009-10. The Port of Oakland is anticipating a five-year run of record container volumes beginning in 1918 and continuing through 2022. The Port of Virginia® reports container throughput aa its Hampton Roads terminals totaled 234,230 TEUs in July, an increase of 7.5 percent from last year and its best July performance ever.
