Six new rail-mounted gantry cranes have left Poland bound for the Port of Virginia signaling the start of a two-year cycle that will see the delivery of 86 new cranes. Ems Ports Agency & Stevedoring (EPAS) received new cranes for tandem lifts of up to 248 tonnes from AAPA Sustaining Member Liebherr. The two new Liebherr mobile harbor cranes LHM 420 will be mainly used for tandem lifts at the port of Emden, Germany.

The Port of Longview Board of Commissioners elected Commissioner Wilson as the new Board President. The Board of Directors for Port Saint John, have elected Allen Bodechon as the new Chair of the Board. The Port of San Diego swore in its 2018 Board of Port Commissioners Executive Officers: Chairmen Rafael Castellanos, Secretary Ann Moore, Vice Chair Garry J. Bonelli.

The Port of Los Angeles moved more cargo in 2017 than in any time in the port’s 110-year history, racking up 9,343,192 TEUs, a 5.5% increase over 2016. Cargo tonnage at Port Saint John increased by over 4 million metric tonnes in 2017. Overall cargo tonnage handled for the year of 2017 was 30,458,422 metric tonnes, a 15% increase. The Port of Virginia set a new annual record for container cargo volume having handled more then 2.84 million TEUs, a 7% increase over last year’s total.

The Port of Seattle introduced a new comprehensive port-wide strategy to combat human trafficking through its facilities. The port’s strategy will focus on four areas: ensuring all employees have access to training and education; utilizing port facilities and communications channels to raise public awareness; collaborating with nonprofits, government agencies and private sector partners to maximize impact; and ensuring port policies and procedures are up to date to report suspicion of human trafficking.

The Board of Trustees of the Port of Galveston was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive 2016 annual financial report. AAPA Sustaining Member Port Newark Container Terminal successfully closed a tax exempt bond transaction. Bond proceeds will be used to refinance existing debt and finance its future terminal development project.
