On March 6-7, port industry representatives from throughout the United States, Canada, Latin America and Europe gathered in Oakland, CA, for AAPA’s Smart Ports conference. The program was designed to help both port information management officers and supply chain technology executives confront the challenges of an increasingly digital goods movement industry. In particular, Smart Ports focused on both port digitization and supply chain innovation.

Port Corpus Christi Commissioners approved a lease agreement with CCI Corpus Christi Infrastructure LLC ("CCI") for approximately 55 acres of land on the north side of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel in the Inner Harbor. PhilaPort received its first two super post-Panamax cranes at the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal after a 90-day journey from Shanghai, China. The Port of Trois-Rivières has committed to creating an IP Zone in Trois-Rivières.

The Board of Directors of AAPA have announced the election of Port of Cleveland President and CEO, William D. Friedman, to serve as chairman for the 2018-19 activity year beginning this October. The Port of Corpus Christi honored Nueces County Judge Loyd Neal upon the announcement of his induction to the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets Hall of Honor. Charles H. Ponstein was appointed to the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans as the St. Bernard Parish representative on the seven-member regional board.
The Georgia Port Authority supports 439,220 full- and part-time jobs across the state, according to a study released by the Selig Center for Economic Growth at UGA's Terry College of Business.

Port of San Diego opened Sojourner, a temporary immersive artwork experience by artist Adam Belt. A recent report compiled by the Puget Sound Maritime Air Forum – a committee of seven ports, including the Port of Seattle, six government agencies, and three industrial partners – shows maritime-related air pollutant emissions decreased in nearly every sector between 2005 and 2016. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority applauds the Fisheries and Ocean Canada’s announcement to invest more than $12 million in new science funding and research projects under the Oceans Protection Plan.

Container volume is currently up 31 percent in fiscal year 2018, and year to date volume in January and February is up 58 percent at the Port of Willmington. Agricultural exports shipped from Port of Oakland have increased 42.7 percent in volume since 2013.
