Port Canaveral has begun work to widen roads, improve traffic signals and a develop a new “wayfinding” system around the port to accommodate increased vehicle traffic generated by the port’s operations growth. The Port of Vancouver USA’s West Vancouver Freight Access project (WVFA) won a 2019 Engineering Excellence Grand Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Oregon. The Port of Virginia completed USDA’s Cold-Treatment Pilot Program, clearing the way for more refrigerated fruit imports. This will increase the overall capacity to handle refrigerated cargo by 66 percent.

Port Milwaukee posted significant gains in cargo movement through the St. Lawrence Seaway in 2018, an indication that international trade disputes have not, as yet, had a major impact on the amount of overseas cargo moving through the port. Seaway cargo – including raw material for manufacturers and agricultural products – was up 28 percent when compared to the previous year.
