The Northwest Seaport Alliance has earned Inbound Logistics magazine’s 75 Green Supply Chain Partner honors for the third consecutive year. One of six U.S. port authorities selected, the NWSA was recognized for its efforts to reduce seaport-related emissions through the Clean Truck Program, installing shore power at terminals, retrofitting cargo-handling equipment, and investing in new, cost-effective stormwater treatment systems. A major Port of Oakland freight hauler is ready to take the next step with battery-powered trucks. GSC Logistics said it would acquire two more electric big rigs by October. The port’s largest trucker said it wants to discover if zero-emission tractors can haul cargo containers over highways.

The Port of Long Beach has released a draft update for its Port Master Plan, a document that defines long-range goals and policies for land use and development at the nation’s second-busiest seaport. The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey has released the Port Master Plan 2050. The 30-year plan takes a holistic look at the port, including cargo container facilities, automobile terminals, dry and liquid bulk cargo operations, cruise terminals and ferry landings, mapping out the next generation of land-use and infrastructure development projects and allowing the port to remain among the nation’s leading maritime gateways.
