The Port of Oakland reported that it is ready for the peak cargo rush, regardless of trade uncertainty surrounding a new round of proposed tariffs. Oakland marine terminals expects cargo to continue moving without delay through the peak season. Port Commissioners also approved a firm’s 13-year lease to continue a program that accelerates moving loaded import containers to final destinations domestically. The Port of Savannah moved a record 4.5 million TEUs in the fiscal year that ended June 30, an increase of more than 305,000 TEUs or 7.3 percent. For the first time ever, GPA handled more than half a million container lifts to rail, growing that number by more than 72,000, or 16.6 percent. The 506,707 intermodal boxes constituted more than 20 percent of total containers, another record.

The Port of Long Beach welcomed Mediterranean Shipping Company’s MSC Jewel, the cleanest container ship to visit the United States. The ship was built in 2019 and is powered by Tier III diesel engines, which are 75% cleaner than the previous standard. Port of Long Beach administrative staff have moved to the waterfront after five years at temporary offices. The Port Administration Building was constructed to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental program’s Gold standard. The Port of Stockton in San Joaquin Valley has achieved certification from Green Marine, the largest voluntary environmental certification program for North America’s maritime industry. Certification recognizes the Port of Stockton’s commitment to continuously reducing its environmental footprint.

Port Manatee has been awarded $1,425,000 in federal funding to advance three projects to bolster security at the fast-growing Central-Southwest Florida Gulf Coast port. The FY 2019 Port Security Grant Program award from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency will be joined by a 25% port match of $475,000.
