Montreal Port Authority (MPA) President and CEO Sylvie Vachon awarded the famous Gold-Headed Cane to Captain Qin Xiao Fei, Master of the Exeborg, marking the start of a new year of activity at the Port of Montreal. The Port of Oakland is seeking ambitious, creative and highly-motivated, full-time college students for its 2020 Summer College Internship Program. Through a competitive process, prospective applicants apply for paid internships in a variety of fields. Cranes, trains and grains are all part of the Port of Vancouver USA’s popular public tour program. The port is hosting 10 free public tours in 2020, which will include education on Columbia River navigation, international trade, environmental stewardship, and more. The Port of Sept-Îles presented the prestigious Port of Sept-Îles cane, a tradition now in its 33rd year, to the captain of the M/V Hinrich Oldendorff from Rotterdam, Netherlands, the first ship of 2020 to call at the Port of Sept-Îles.

The Port of Long Beach navigated a trade dispute with China, new technology and evolving trade routes in 2019, culminating in its second-busiest year on record by moving more than 7.6 million TEUs. The Port of Montreal had its sixth consecutive record year in 2019. The port surpassed the 40 million tonne mark in cargo handled, reaching 40.5 million tonnes, an increase of 4.1% over 2018. Port of Oakland 2019 container volume decreased 1.8% from 2018, according to recent data. The port attributed the decline to fewer empty containers but said loaded import and export containers were at a record high. The Port of Sept-Îles announced an increase of more than 15% in volume handled at the port in 2019, at 29,292,000 tonnes compared to 25,363,000 tonnes the year before.
