Port of Los Angeles and CMA CGM Group donated 75,000 respiratory face masks to United Farm Workers to be distributed to California farmworkers who are working in difficult conditions amid the pandemic, wildfire smoke and extreme heat. CMA CGM, a world leader in shipping and logistics, donated the masks to Logistics Victory Los Angeles (LoVLA) earlier this summer.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers coastal dredging contractor was in Coos Bay conducting dredging operations within the Charleston federal navigation channel. The Port of Coos Bay recognized an opportunity to realize significant cost savings associated with mobilization and demobilization to the south coast, and entered into a contract with McAmis to remove up to 3,000 cubic yards of sand from a problematic area of shoaling at Point Adams. Juneau Docks & Harbors staff will begin demolition of the North end of Aurora Harbor that will enable Western Marine Construction to mobilize in October, first to Harris Harbor and then to Aurora Harbor, to provide maintenance dredging under a contract with the Corps of Engineers.

Port of Redwood City announced this week that total cargo tonnage is down by 21% from a year ago – a phenomenon that has affected ports across the globe as they’ve grappled with decreased consumer demand, government mandates and canceled sailings in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Port of Savannah exported more loaded containers than any other port in the country from January through May, achieving a 12.2% market share. Garden City Terminal handled a total of 593,195 TEUs of loaded exports during the first five months of the calendar year.

The Port of Corpus Christi has been added to Argus’ American GulfCoast Select (Argus AGS) Crude Index which provides real-time commodity pricing data from Argus. The new AGS Index further positions Corpus Christi as a major hub for crude oil contracts by increasing transactional pricing certainty for global energy markets while reducing infrastructure investment risk in the region.

Miami-Dade County officials authorized the issuance of $335 million to PortMiami under the Capital Asset Acquisition Special Obligation Bonds “2020 Authorization” for revenue generating capital projects with Carnival Corporation, Disney Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line (Bahamas), Terminal Link Miami and Virgin Cruise Intermediate Limited, as well as other infrastructure projects allowing the port to continue expanding business opportunities.

The Port of Everett Commission authorized Port CEO Lisa Lefeber to enter into a new lease with on-site maritime service provider Everett Ship Repair (ESR). The five-year lease commits ESR to their current shipyard footprint at the Port of Everett Seaport, including the northern side of Pier 3 and the adjacent 3.5-acre site. The agreement includes two, five-year options and requires the shipyard to expand its service capacity to support DDG-class military vessels.

The Pacific Northwest Waterways Association announced the completion of the Mouth of the Columbia River North Jetty and Jetty A rehabilitation projects, and the start of work on the South Jetty rehabilitation project. The jetties support the economy of the region and the entire country. Over 56 million tons of cargo valued at roughly $21 billion move through the Lower Columbia River annually, and thousands of Pacific Northwest jobs are dependent on this trade.
