Saint John Port Authority President and CEO Jim Quinn is stepping down from his role to continue his transition to the Senate of Canada. Captain Chris Hall, vice president of operations and harbor master for Saint John Port Authority, will assume the position of interim president and CEO. Captain Hall has over 30 years of experience in the marine industry and has been at Port Saint John since 2014. With Captain Hall in place as interim president and CEO, the Board of Directors will proceed with the search for the permanent president and CEO.

On July 9, the Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) marked the 125th anniversary of its founding as an independent subdivision of the state of Louisiana, a self-sustaining public agency. The port is commemorating this milestone with a year-long public engagement campaign featuring a special anniversary logo with the theme of “Port of New Orleans: Connecting Louisiana with the World.”

The Port of Los Angeles processed 876,430 TEUs in June, a 27% increase compared to last year. It was the port’s busiest June ever and closed the fiscal year at 10,879,383 TEUs, a new milestone for any Western Hemisphere port. The Port of Brownsville is feeding all steel slabs to Ternium’s new hot rolling mill in Pesqueria, Mexico. So far this year 32 vessels have called on the port to deliver more than 1.6 million metric tons of steel slab from Brazil and Russia to the new mill. Gulf Stream Marine has partnered with Ternium to provide the cargo handling operations at the port, and a major terminal development is underway to maximize loading efficiency of railcars for steel slab shipments to Ternium’s mill.

The Port of Pascagoula announced construction of the $90 million Marine Export Terminal is progressing on schedule. Two storage domes are on site to accommodate wood pellets produced in Enviva Manufacturing Plants. A conveyer transfers the pellets to a Bruks Siwertell ship loader for discharge into vessels bound for Asia and Europe markets. The terminal will be capable of receiving product by rail, barge and truck and will directly employ about 30 full-time workers.
