Port Everglades, a department of Broward County government, is seeking the services of a qualified and experienced firm to retrofit/modify seven existing Samsung low-profile, rail mounted, ship-to-shore container gantry cranes and complete painting of the seven Samsung, one Paceco, and one Gottwald cranes. RFP No. BLD2125137P1 – Modification of Existing Low-Profile Cranes – is currently available in Periscope S2G (formerly known as BidSync).

Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves Port Director and CEO, has been honored as the Galvestonian of the Year by the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce for positively contributing to the betterment of the region’s business community. Rees accepted the “Nonno” Tony Smecca Galvestonian of the Year award at the chamber’s 178th annual meeting on January 28. Rees oversees the fourth most popular cruise port in North America and one of the nation’s top 50 cargo ports. This self-sustaining city entity generates more than 14,000 jobs and has an estimated annual state economic impact of $2.1 billion. Since Rees took the helm in January 2018, the Port of Galveston has expanded its business, improved the port’s financial position, and developed and implemented a 20-year strategic master plan. Most recently, the port opened a $125 million cruise terminal through a public-private partnership with Royal Caribbean International.

Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, PhD, US Navy (ret), former Administrator at NOAA and current CEO of Ocean STL Consulting, as well as host of The American Blue Economy Podcast on the American Shoreline Network, will be joining this year's AAPA Legislative Summit: Strong Ports, Strong America in Washington, D.C., March 27-29, 2023. RDML Gallaudet will moderate a Q&A on Global Security with one of the summit's keynote speakers.
 
From 2017-2021, Rear Admiral Gallaudet served as the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere/Deputy NOAA Administrator (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), and from 2017-2019, he also served as the Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere/NOAA Administrator. As Acting Administrator, RDML Gallaudet oversaw an annual budget of $6B and led an agency comprised of 20,000 federal employees and contractors managing the nation’s fisheries, coastal resources and waterways, weather satellites, weather services, and environmental research. As Deputy Administrator, he led NOAA’s Blue Economy activities to advance marine transportation, sustainable seafood production, ocean exploration and mapping, marine tourism and recreation, and coastal resilience in the United States and with its partners. Prior to NOAA, Gallaudet served for 32 years in the U.S. Navy, completing his career as the Oceanographer of the Navy on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations.

AAPA President and CEO Chris Connor, along with AAPA Board of Directors Chairman and Port of Corpus Christi CEO Sean Strawbridge, will travel to the White House to sit down with Steve Ricchetti, Counselor to the President. The meeting this week is set to cover several key AAPA policy priorities to maintain strong ports for a strong America, including permitting reform, adopting wise long-term infrastructure project capital investment strategies, and incentivizing domestic manufacturing of port equipment.
 
 
   
City of Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson toured the development site for the agricultural maritime export facility at Port Milwaukee. Mayor Johnson was joined by Port officials, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and representatives from The DeLong Co., Inc. to view the progress of this major investment that will create jobs, support Wisconsin’s agriculture industry, and grow the regional economy.
 
 
   
PhilaPort, along with Glovis America, Penn Auto, the International Longshoremen’s Association and Teamsters recently celebrated a milestone of two million cars handled through Philadelphia. Since the start of operations in 2010, Glovis America has consistently grown their volumes via The Port of Philadelphia — having reached a record of 221,022 vehicles in 2022.
 
 
   
The Port of Grays Harbor will be hosting an informational Open House on Wednesday, February 15, for the community to learn more about the Terminal 4 Expansion and Redevelopment Project planned at the port. The multi-station Open House forum will feature information on AGP, their products and their expansion plans, along with preliminary design concepts of the Port’s T4 Expansion project, the process for a project of this magnitude and timeline of the project.
 
 
   
The ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles have released a final report on the current state and overall feasibility of using clean, heavy-duty drayage truck technology throughout the San Pedro Bay port complex. The Final 2021 Feasibility Assessment for Drayage Trucks can be downloaded from the Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) website: cleanairactionplan.org/strategies/trucks.
 
Virginia Inland Port (VIP) is fulfilling all of its operational electricity needs from clean-energy resources, and in doing so moves The Port of Virginia forward with its goal of reducing emissions and becoming carbon-neutral by 2040. The inland port gets its power from Rappahannock Electric Cooperative and through a new agreement, the cooperative will provide clean electricity to VIP from Virginia-based solar installations.

For the 33rd consecutive year, Port Freeport received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2021 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). The ACFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to communicate its financial story and motivating potential users and user groups to read the ACFR.
 
 
   
The Port of Bellingham is the newest participant in Green Marine, the leading voluntary environmental certification program for North America’s maritime industry. “We are committed to achieving the highest level of environmental excellence, and the decision to join Green Marine helps fulfill this commitment,” said Port Executive Director Rob Fix.
 
 
   
Crowley is taking key steps toward becoming one of Port Fourchon’s newest tenants. Crowley has reached a Right of First Refusal Agreement to potentially lease and develop an offshore wind terminal during Wednesday’s Greater Lafourche Port Commission (GLPC) Board Meeting in Cut Off, La. The more than 40-acre site, encompassing over 2,200 linear feet of prime waterfront property, is expected to become the home of a purpose-driven offshore wind facility in the coming years.
 
 
   
The CMA CGM Group, a global player in sea, land, air and logistics solutions, has become an Official Partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The CMA CGM Group will be handling the transport and logistics for all the goods, equipment and materials required at both venues.
 
 
   
David Engel was reappointed by the Corpus Christi City Council to serve another term on the Port of Corpus Christi Commission, where he currently serves as secretary. Port Fourchon announced newly elected Port Commissioner Thomas “Tom” Pitre III was formally sworn into office officially taking his place at Seat B, during the Greater Lafourche Port Commission’s monthly board meeting on February 8.
 
 
   
Throughout 2022, more than 15.2 million tons of diverse cargo moved through the Port of Brownsville, supporting various industries with efficient and reliable logistical services according to unaudited cargo volume reports. This forecast represents a 10.2% increase from the 13.8 million tons of cargo recorded in 2021, a new record for the Port of Brownsville.

With the release of Fourth Quarter 2022 data, Port of South Louisiana (PortSL) saw an annual increase in tonnage of nearly 10 million short tons of cargo. In 2022, PortSL moved a total of 239,257,758 short tons compared to a total of 229,797,480 short tons in 2021. This is the first year that PortSL has seen a net increase in tonnage since 2017.
