Air pollution emissions dropped significantly in 2022 at the Port of Long Beach in all categories, according to a new study that confirmed the port had met all the goals of the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan a year ahead of schedule. The Port of Los Angeles made significant clear air progress in 2022 compared with the previous year, according to the port’s new Inventory of Air Emissions. The report shows emissions for calendar year 2022 are down from all port-related sources due to both a reduction in ships at anchor and the port’s ongoing environmental initiatives.

The Port of Baltimore welcomed Norwegian Cruise Line to begin a fall and winter sailing schedule. For the first time in the company’s history, Norwegian will have two ships homeporting from Maryland: Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun. The ships will offer cruises from Baltimore to New England and Canada, Bermuda and the Caribbean. The Port of Quebec welcomed Holland America Line's 150th anniversary commemorative cruise on September 1. Holland America is the first cruise line to have made Quebec City its significant home port for more than 20 years. The company links New York and Boston to Quebec City along the Canada-New England route and is a pioneer in cruise activity outside the Fall peak season, with ports of call as early as May.

The Port of San Diego is commemorating its 16th annual Green Port Month. Every September since 2008, the port highlights its environmental achievements and recognizes the people and partners that help make them happen. Another highlight is the release of the annual Green Port Year in Review, a report that spotlights the port’s environmental accomplishments for the year.

The Port of Caddo-Bossier broke ground on a new heavy-load, multimodal warehouse on September 12. The Red River Waterway Commission and Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development are helping to fund the construction of the 40,000 square foot building, adding to the 310,000 square feet currently leased by Odyssey Logistics, LLC at the port, where it stores products for other port tenants.

Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (ONE) has selected Port Everglades as the U.S. port of call on its newly minted FLX service that will bring refrigerated fruits, vegetables and seafood from the farms of South America to the tables of South Florida. ONE’s FLX service will connect Port Everglades to Callao and Paita (Peru), and Guayaquil (Ecuador).

The Port of Everett welcomed Cara Craig as its new Trade Development Director to support continued growth of the Port of Everett’s international seaport division, which represents nearly $30 billion in U.S. import and export value annually. Craig officially joined the port on August 28 to provide a critical interface with the port's international customers, explore new ways to serve existing customers, attract new business opportunities, and ensure the economic vitality of the port and the region it serves.

As part of a project to improve water quality in and around port facilities, the port authorities of Montreal, Quebec and Trois-Rivières have jointly launched an innovation challenge to Quebec startups. The goal is to develop a tool that, in real time, can sample runoff water in port terminals. Such a tool will make it possible to closely monitor water quality near terminals at all times and, in turn, help protect the St. Lawrence River ecosystem.
