ACBTSA September 2024 Meeting Summary: Key Insights and Recommendations
The Advisory Committee on Blood and Tissue Safety and Availability (ACBTSA) held its 59th meeting on September 4-5, 2024. This meeting was convened to review and consider recommendations in response to the Tissue Biovigilance Gap Analysis Report, which was initiated following the first documented tuberculosis transmission in tissue transplantation. The report identifies critical opportunities to enhance safety and oversight in the tissue banking industry. This rare, tissue-focused meeting addressed key challenges in tissue banking through presentations on CDC investigations, regulatory frameworks, and product tracing during outbreaks. The committee adopted 11 recommendations proposed by the Tissue Biovigilance Subcommittees to strengthen safety practices and maintain public trust. Access the Tissue Biovigilance Gap Analysis Report, subcommittee recommendations, and the meeting summary for more insights.
