FDA Issues "Important Information for HCT/P Establishments Regarding Tuberculosis Outbreaks Linked to a Bone Matrix Product"
On September 6, 2023, FDA published a Tissue Safety and Availability Communication regarding tuberculosis outbreaks linked to a bone matrix product. This communication discusses risk mitigation strategies in terms of responsible person requirements and donor screening recommendations. The donor screening recommendations contain similar, but not all, of AATB’s requirements that went into effect on September 4th for its accredited tissue banks. AATB’s Bulletin 23-6, Requirements and Recommendations for Reducing Risk of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Transmission, is listed as an additional resource on the FDA communication.
