CMS Delays Implementation of LCDs for Skin Substitutes after Hearing Concerns from AATB and other Stakeholders
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have delayed the effective date of previously-issued Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs) for skin substitute human tissue products by two weeks, after AATB TPG sent letters to the involved Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) and spoke at a “listening session” hosted by CMS/MACs. The association and its affected accredited tissue banks are concerned that the LCD will restrict access to critical allografts used in wound care.
