NEWS FROM THE FIELD
Vitamin B12 Helps Reprogram Cells to Heal Tissue & Fight Chronic Disease
New Atlas
Scientists at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine in Barcelona found that vitamin B12 is crucial for cellular reprogramming and tissue regeneration. Their studies suggest that vitamin B12 supplementation could enhance tissue repair, offering potential applications in regenerative medicine for conditions involving inflammation and tissue damage. Injectable Tissue Prosthesis for Instantaneous Closed-Loop Rehabilitation
Nature
Researchers have developed an injectable tissue prosthesis with bidirectional electrical conduction for use in neuromuscular systems. The soft and injectable prosthesis demonstrates successful closed-loop robot-assisted rehabilitation in rats with severe muscle injury, leading to accelerated tissue repair in later stages. New Computer Code For Mechanics of Tissues and Cells in Three Dimensions
Phys.org
Scientists from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics, the Center for Systems Biology Dresden, and TU Dresden have developed an open-source supercomputer code that enables the study of three-dimensional behaviors of living materials, offering insights into the long-term behavior of active materials, predicting tissue shapes, and understanding mechanisms of growth and disease. You Can Now 3D Print and Grow Hair on Engineered Skin Tissue
Interesting Engineering
By precisely printing spheroids containing dermal papilla cells and human umbilical vein cells within a pregelled dermal layer, the resulting tissue exhibited hair follicle-like structures that closely resembled native skin tissue, offering potential applications in regenerative medicine for grafts and efficacy models to assess chemical compound safety. Promotion of Uterine Reconstruction by a Tissue-Engineered Uterus With Biomimetic Structure and Extracellular Matrix Microenvironment
Science Advances
Scientists have developed a bilayer scaffold (ECM-SPS) inspired by the nature of the uterus. In experiments involving subtotal uterine reconstruction, the scaffold demonstrated mechanical and antiadhesion properties suitable for uterine repair and exhibited characteristics of both endometrium and myometrium, inducing stem cell-directed differentiation and promoting endometrial and smooth muscle regeneration, offering a potential treatment for severe intrauterine adhesions in women.
