ABSDA is exploring Member Requirements for a Workshop - “Flooring Estimating, Sales Essentials & Tips”.

This 1-Day Program is designed to speed up the learning curve to become an inclusive Flooring Sales and Estimating professional. The program will cover flooring options, sheet goods, carpet, laminate, hardwood and their essential accessories, with a touch on commercial flooring. The topics covered will include: customer interview and relations, job site assessment and measurements with blueprint reading, estimate preparation with cost plus understanding, flooring industry glossary of terms and tips to get the sales. There will be some hands-on measuring and estimating exercises.

Course Instructor Stan Burkholder has a passion for giving back to the Retail Building Materials industry which he has been a part of since 1973. Stan started in a family run Retail Lumber yard in Bluesky, AB. After 5 years part time he worked full time for 25 years. Then Stan and his partner sold their Retail Lumber Company. Stan has been an Industry Trainer for more than 13 years working with Regional Building Materials Retail Associations across Canada. Stan is also a Past Chair of ABSDA’s sister association in the Prairie Provinces – WRLA (Western Retail Lumber Association).

Cost: $199 per person (ABSDA Members)

            $329 per person (Non- Members)

Steve Buckle - President Sexton Group is pleased to announce the following leadership appointments:

Eric Palmer will take on the role of Senior Manager Purchasing. Eric has been actively involved in the industry for over 10 years and four with Sexton. He has shown keen leadership skills, which will help to shape the future of Sexton.

Tom Bell has accepted the role of Senior Manager Business Development. Tom has over 30 years of experience in the building supply industry and is an active leader of industry associations.

Krista Venn – Manager of Programs/Analysis. Krista has been with the Sexton Group for 15 years and has in-depth knowledge of the industry and understands our members day-to-day needs.

Home Hardware Stores Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Bryant as Vice-President, Human Resources, effective January 7, 2019. He will be succeeding Stew Gingrich in the role, who retired this month.

Stew announced his retirement in late 2018 after 46 years of service. He joined the Home Hardware family in September 1972 and held the role of Vice-President, Human Resources for the past 14 years.

“Stew contributed greatly to Home Hardware Stores Limited and served most capably in every position he held,” said Christine Hand, Board Chairman, Home Hardware Stores Limited. “We extend our best wishes on his retirement.”

Bringing almost two decades of experience to the role, Scott previously held the role as Home Hardware’s Senior Director, Human Resources.

“Scott has been at Home Hardware for 19 years and in his tenure in the Human Resources department has demonstrated strong leadership capabilities,” said Kevin Macnab, President and CEO, Home Hardware Stores Limited. “He is a dedicated and results-oriented leader who has successfully led change management projects at Home Hardware Stores Limited.”
