Overview: The Plan Development Process (PDP) is an important tool that enables GDOT to provide a safe, seamless and sustainable transportation system that supports Georgia’s economy and is sensitive to its citizens and environment. Local Government plays a key role in helping to fulfill GDOT’s mission of providing a safe, seamless and sustainable transportation system. An overview of the Plan Development Process and the Federal and State laws that impact it will facilitate technology staff in designing, developing and implementing beneficial systems to the Department’s continued successful operation.
Objectives: This course provides an overview of the Plan Development Process (PDP) used by the Georgia Department of Transportation to design roadway, bridge and other transportation projects. By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the Plan Development Process and its phases
- Describe how projects are identified and programmed, scheduled and managed
- Describe how environmental requirements impact the PDP process
- Describe how project concepts are developed and approved
- Describe the process by which the Preliminary Design is developed and approved.
- Describe the actions necessary to prepare and gain approval of the Final Construction plans

There is no registration fee for this course. Please register early since space is limited. Registration deadline is December 1. Confirmation for registration will be received five working days prior to the class.

This course is developed for Local Government elected officials, senior staff and anyone overseeing GDOT projects.
