Georgia Southwestern State University, Laseanda Moore, completes internship with Sumter County
Prior to interning with Sumter County, Laseanda Moore, a psychology major at Georgia Southwestern State University, said she did not know much about how county governments operated. However, while with Sumter County, Moore learned how many processes and procedures it takes to complete one task.
During the course of her internship with the County Administrator, Moore’s primary responsibilities consisted of gathering research information from residents in Sumter County and surrounding neighborhoods. Her most significant success was using these outreach methods to get feedback and an open line of communication with the residents of the community about redevelopment and overall access to county resources.
Moore’s favorite part of her internship experience was the opportunity to be surrounded by professionals who truly wanted to collaborate and contribute to her development. In addition, she enjoyed finding ways to make county government relations and practices more comprehensible to Sumter County residents.
To future interns, Moore would tell her peers to be prepared to learn and execute tasks on your own. She stated that public speaking was one of the skills she gained through her internship, but she would not have had the chance if she never applied herself to her internship.
