University of North Georgia student, Madelyn Swift, completes internship with Hall County
Prior to interning with Hall County, Madelyn Swift, a University of North Georgia communications major, did not have prior experience in government operations. However, while with Hall County, Swift learned about how pivotal county government is to the daily lives of Hall County citizens.
During the course of her internship with Hall County’s Human Resources Department, Swift’s primary responsibilities consisted of attending meetings, shadowing each staff member in Human Resources, and assisting with retirement benefits, ADA compliance, and workers’ compensation claims. Her most significant success was creating and distributing benefit spreadsheets for retirees.
Swift’s favorite part of her internship experience was building relationships with her supervisors and directors. She explained that each person helped her learn something new, and she cannot thank them enough for pouring into her internship experience.
To future interns, Swift would tell her peers to consider county government as a great place to begin when searching for internships. She explains that being a part of something so very crucial to the community was very rewarding.
