Back in August, the Census Bureau changed the deadline to collect the 2020 Census from October 31 to September 30. The 9th Circuit in National Urban League v. Ross ordered the Census Bureau to continue collections beyond the revised September 30, 2020 deadline. According to the court order, both the collection date and the deadline to submit the results to the President (December 31) have been extended. A second clarifying order was issued by the 9th Circuit stating that the Census Bureau must continue counting through October 31. The Administration filed an appeal which will be decided the week of October 5. All adjustments to the 2020 Census schedule can be found here.
While field staff for the Census Bureaus have been greatly reduced, the enumerators are still going door-to-door and have been ordered to do so through October 31. The latest response rates shows that there are still over 50 counties that have not yet exceeded a 50% response rate and that less than 60 counties have exceeded their 2010 response rates. Please urge everyone in your community to complete the census by phone, online, or by mail by October 31.
