Georgia Forestry Commission Reminders

September brings reminders from the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) for all counties. As of September 1, tractor and bulldozer rate changes are in effect. Regardless of the size or type of equipment used, the charge will be $190 for the first hour, with a minimum of one-hour required. Transportation fees are included in the first hour charge and partial hour rates are reduced. In addition, as of July 1, 2021, those intending to burn hand-piled yard debris are no longer required to notify GFC. Because the number one cause of wildfire is escaped debris burning, the agency is focusing on specific burning safety measures landowners must use to avoid unlawful burning charges. For agriculture, silviculture and land-clearing burns, a permit IS still required. For complete details on the new law, go to https://gatrees.org/georgia-burn-notification-law-changing/.
