GLGPA Awards Human Resources Manager Certificates

Recently the Georgia Local Government Personnel Association (GLGPA) held their Spring Conference at the UGA Center for Continuing Education and Hotel in Athens, Georgia on June 4-7, 2024. During the conference county members were awarded certifications for completing the Level I Certification as a Certified Human Resources Manager (CHRM) and the Level II Certification as an Advanced Certified Human Resources Manager (ACHRM) through the Georgia Local Government Personnel Association and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government.    
 
During the conference, employees from five county governments were awarded Level I Certifications as a Certified Human Resources Manager (CHRM).  To achieve the CHRM certification, each person completed 13 classes and a self-directed learning project.  
 
GLGPA would like to congratulate the following:
  • Sherry Caughman, Senior Human Resources Specialist for the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners
  • Maribel Gonzalez, Human Resources Generalist for the Habersham County Board of Commissioners
  • Kate Pitts, Administrative Assistant, Uniform Patrol Division for the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office
  • Dwayne Pollock, Director of Human Resources for the Glynn County Board of Commissioners
  • Loren Smith, Personnel Clerk for the Houston County Board of Commissioners
  • Beth Sullivan, Administrative Coordinator for the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office

In addition to these recipients, employees from four county governments were awarded their Level II Certifications as Advanced Certified Human Resources Manager (ACHRM).  To achieve the ACHRM certification, each person completed 48 hours of instruction in classes and the completion of a multi-rater assessment instrument (Gov360) that collects ratings on behavioral competencies from multiple observers. 
 
GLGPA extends a congratulations to the following:
  • Melissa Darvish, Human Resources/Risk Management/Fleet & Safety Assistant Manager for the Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority  
  • Monica Irwin, Human Resources Director / County Clerk for the Crisp County Government
  • Riley Johnson, Director of Human Resources for the Bryan County Board of Commissioners
  • Beth Stringer, Human Resources Manager for the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office

The GLGPA certification programs are the only programs in the state of Georgia whereby local government employees may become certified in the Human Resources field.  The programs are sponsored by GLGPA in conjunction with the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) and the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) and are administered by The University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government (CVIOG).
