Class Action Settlement – Payment Card Interchange Fees

If your county accepted Visa and Mastercard payments between 2004 and 2019, it is eligible to recover some amount of money as part of a court-approved $5.5 billion settlement with those companies regarding purported excessive interchange fees charged to merchants during that period. The amount of money your county may be entitled to is unknown, since the final distribution will depend on the number and value of the claims made. The deadline to file a claim is August 30, 2024.
Claims forms were previously mailed to identified merchants (i.e., those accepting those forms of payment). Whether or not your county has received that form, a claim can still be filed at the settlement website, via a process that appears to be straightforward and based upon your county’s taxpayer identification number. Please see the settlement website for more information.
Any questions regarding this matter should be directed to your county attorney.
