Tree Check Month - Ask a GFC Expert

The USDA has declared August “Tree Check Month.” Because healthy forests have healthy trees, the GFC encourages all landowners to actively manage and monitor their forest and urban trees. Playing offense helps trees utilize water, nutrients, and sunlight to avoid issues that cause stress to a tree. Proper spacing of trees takes advantage of these elements and reduces the threat of insect and disease damage. Monitoring for insects, holes in the bark, leaf defoliation, irregular growth, sap flow, and lack of fruit or flowers can indicate stressed trees. For forest management advice, reach out to your local GFC forester at https://gatrees.org/gfc-contacts/county-contacts/. GFC’s Ask an Arborist page accepts questions about tree concerns.
