GFC Combatting Pine Beetle Outbreaks
Print this Article | Send to Colleague
The Georgia Forestry Commission Forest Health team is working with landowners in numerous counties to combat southern beetle (SPB) activity. Aerial surveys are showing increased beetle outbreaks, mainly in Georgia’s Piedmont region. Once SPB is noted from above, GFC foresters on the ground notify landowners and work to mitigate the outbreak. Infestation signs include green needle droppings, fading crowns, and boring dust. Counties with high activity are: Cherokee, Paulding, Douglas, Bartow, Haralson, Carroll, Heard, Coweta, Troup, Meriwether, Pike, Spalding, Butts, Monroe, Hancock, Green, and Putnam. Contact your local GFC office for assistance.
